Telecom Stocks Outlook for the week – 08 to 12.05.2017

The Movement in shares of telecommunication companies is likely to remain stock
specific next week. We expect shares of Idea Cellular Ltd and Reliance Communications
Ltd to be weak.
Bharti Airtel, India's largest telecom operator in terms of subscribers and revenue will
announce its earnings for the March quarter on Tuesday. Investors will watch out for the
management's comments on the impact of Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd operations on the
company's performance. Idea Cellular, too, will announce its Jan-Mar earnings on
Wednesday.
The Multiple free data and voice services offered by Reliance Jio for over five months,
before announcing aggressive tariffs, forced incumbent telecom operators to announce
matching tariff plans to compete.
The Reserve Bank of India has asked banks to give immediate attention to the telecom
sector, and review banks' exposure by Jun 30. Rising competition in the sector has also led
to consolidation. Bharti Airtel has announced two separate acquisitions of Tikona Digital
Networks Pvt Ltd and the Indian arm of Norway's Telenor ASA.
Vodafone India and Idea Cellular have also announced a merger, which is pending
regulatory approvals.
